Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle And Prevent Acne Scarring

By Gigasu Kubigta

It is teenagers that comes to mind first when the subject of acne scarring is raised. However, this condition is common in adults, and especially women. Many folk remedies are available, but some of these may actually cause more harm than good. If the problem is severe, professional help is needed.

This problem can have a variety of underlying causes. It has been linked to high levels of stress, and women experiencing their menstrual cycles are often prone to outbreaks of this disease. Young males are particularly vulnerable, especially if high levels of testosterone are expended. Hormonal changes during puberty also play a role.

Medication can prove to help prevention and treatment in many cases. Massive doses of vitamins A and C are commonly administered, as are anti inflammatories and broad range antibiotics. The use of oral contraceptives has resulted in remarkable results and hormonal treatments have made great advances in this field.

Other medical interventions include dermabrasion, where the surface of the skin is removed. This solution not only gets rid of the infection, but also prevents disfigurement. However, treatment is very painful and healing takes a long time. Exfoliation is a less severe remedy with fewer side effects, but may cause dryness of the skin and some flaking.

Modern technology now uses blue and red light in the treatment of skin ailments, including moderate cases of acne. It is especially treatments using ultra violet light that has resulted in significant improvement in mild cases. Laser is also used quite extensively. It is used to treat affected areas by burning away infected follicles. This type of treatment is not of much use in prevention of the condition.

Luckily, the prognosis for successful treatment of acne scarring is very good. For one thing, the problem often disappears during the early twenties. Most other occurrences are the result of imbalances of one sort or another, or of stress. These conditions can all be prevented or treated. A healthy lifestyle and attention to hygiene play a big role.
