Revered Blue Marlin Sport Angling

The blue marlin is one of the largest and most stunning fish that inhabit the ocean. These beautiful creatures spend most of their lives far out in the ocean. Due to their size and their beauty these fish are commonly featured in deep sea fishing tours and fishing adventure charters. However, due to their popularity they may be reaching endangered levels. Size

The blue marlin is the largest Atlantic marlin; the species is also classified as on of the biggest fish in the world. Males tend to be smaller than females; the females can range from 11 to 14 feet in length and weigh anywhere from 400 pounds to 1,985 pounds.

Physique

Due to their size and unique physique they are very recognizable. They feature a cobalt-blue color on the top and a sparkling white below. They have a very distinguished dorsal fin as well as a long, deadly, spear-like jaw. They are very fast and agile creatures and due to their upper jaw can be quite deadly as well.

Habitat

Blue marlins are found in tropical waters. They are native to the warm temperatures found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They tend to say in surface waters due to the higher temperatures. They feed on mackerel, tuna, and will occasionally do a deep dive to eat some squid. They spend their lives far out at sea and are known for their migration tendencies which follows warm ocean currents.

Fishing

One of the reasons blue marlins are commonly featured on Panama fishing charters is because of the ferocious fight they put up. These fish are known for wrestling with fishing lines and creating quite a struggle for fishermen. This is why they are considered prized catches. Because they are popularly fished, although they are not endangered now, their population may be decreasing.

Endangered

Due to the popularity of blue marlins in the sport fishing world, their population may be dwindling. Conservationists are concerned about the unregulated fishing. In addition to the fun in fishing for blue marlin, they also feature a delicacy like taste in their meat. In some countries, such as Japan, there meat is served raw as Sashimi.
