The Potential Risks Of Living In Contemporary Culture

By Walter Q. Xavier

Today's modern society is fraught with danger and trouble lurking at every corner. The paradox is that all of the great inventions of modern society which were designed to keep us safe, secure, and happy, are having the opposite effect. We are in danger of many illnesses and diseases due to our laziness and our over processed food.

Of course, if you only ate healthy foods and never strayed form such a diet, your life would be pretty boring. It's important to give yourself a cheating day ever now and then. Sitting in front of the TV all day eating ice cream and potato chips every couple weeks is a great way to reduce stress. But to do that every day would be a little bit much. Just focus on eating healthy food most of the time, and you'll be fine.

Another danger of modern society is the lack of exercise we all seem to suffer from. Many times, the only exercise we get is when we get up to get some more ice cream out of the freezer when the commercials come on. In order to combat this, make sure to do a little bit of exercise on a regular basis. This can do wonders for your health.

One of the biggest killers of creativity today is TV. TV can be an amazing resource, and bring you timely information from around the world, but it can also sap you of any creative and constructive thought if you mindlessly watch hours of TV every day. Consider reading a book instead, or better yet, take a stroll down to your public library and see what they have to offer.

Many people are unaware of how many chemicals there are in our modern water supply. While these chemicals were designed to keep us healthy, they may be having some unintended side effects. Low sperm count in men is one such effect that is currently being investigated. Consider getting a water filter, or better yet, drinking bottled water instead.

While living in modern society is much easier than back in the day when we had to chase after our food every day, it can lull us into a false sense of security. By focusing on the ideas in this article, and making a few easy lifestyle changes, you won't succumb to the evils of modern day living.
