Online RN to BSN Degree

By Laurie Mc Brown

Successfully completing an RN to BSN program, or furthering your education as a Registered Nurse by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree, is an excellent way to increase your wages as well as your medical knowledge and skills.

Numerous schools, both online and the traditional brick and mortar type, offer RN to BSN degree programs with many specializing in certain aspects of health care. Nurses with a bachelor's degree in science may pursue positions as directors of nursing, nurse case managers, clinical nurse managers, and of course, as registered nurses.

As a registered nurse with a BSN, as opposed to an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN), can expect to enjoy an average salary of at least $2,500 more per year. RNs with a Bachelor of Science degree will typically earn more in relationship to their peers holding an ADN degree because they gain more experience in their respective fields. Nurses who are case managers that have received their BSN degree will earn an average of $3,500 more than nurses with an ADN.

For those seeking employment as a director of nursing in settings such as hospitals and nursing homes, an RN to BSN degree might mean as much as $6,000 more each year than those with just an associate's degree. And, clinical nurse managers who have successfully completed an RN to BSN program will earn an average of $7,000 more annually.

Careers for nurses with a BSN are burgeoning in the administration and management sectors of the medical field. A quick glance at job openings in the ever-expanding field of nursing will confirm the great need for qualified nurses. With those additional skills and medical expertise, they are surely considered first.

But why do this degree program online? Aren't there tons of campus-based colleges and universities offering this program? Yes there are, but studying online offers many benefits that campus based degrees don't offer.
