Increasing Your Vertical Leap With Proven Techniques

By Gabrielle Knoss

You can make yourself appear more of a better player in just about any sport with an increase in vertical leap. Most people envy those basketball greats like Michael Jordan and Shaq who seem to fly through the air as they make shot after shot. As you will see it is not imperative that you be as good as these two athletes to make significant improvements in your vertical leap. Regardless of where you think your skill level might currently be it is possible for you to jump higher and still increase your skill in any given sport. Here we discuss a few ideas for improving your vertical leap.

You can use an exercise called pylometrics to increase your vertical jump effectively. There are of course many styles of this exercise but they all provide the same results, improved speed and power in movements. All of these exercises are movements that help enhance your ability to generate the kind of power it takes to jump higher. These can all be done using only your own body but you can also use an equipment called a medicine ball if you so desire. A personal trainer can be hired but you may also use a training video to learn these exercises.

As you begin working on your ability to jump vertically you should also set goals regularly. These goals don't have to involve numbers like how high or how far because you'll only get frustrated if you don't meet them. It's best to set simple goals like how often you'll do the exercise or what diet program is best for you and where you want to see the most improvements. You will be more likely to see the results you are seeking if you are setting attainable goals.

Use some stretching exercises to warm up before and after exercising to increase vertical leaps. You need to avoid injury and delays in your training. Stretching your entire body reduces the risk of serious injury and makes you more flexible overall which can aid in vertical leap ability. It's especially important to stretch your legs for agility and flexibility through the routine you put them through.

Getting to the vertical leap goals you desire isn't easy and will take some time. You will need to continue to work on this skill for however long you intend to continue playing sports. There will of course be times when you don't feel as if you are gaining any ground. Stick with it, the changes could happen all of a sudden. If your desire is to increase your vertical leap consistency is the key. The biggest thing for you to remember is to try your best and never give up. Following these tips is your road map to successful results.
