Information About Urinary Tract Infection For Women

By Carla Pearce

When a woman has a urinary tract infection, she is experiencing one of the most painful issues a woman can have. The symptoms can sometimes be very severe. They can include burning when urinating, an urge to go frequently and moderate to extreme pain. Some women have one of these infections for five days or so.

Symptoms can also include a fever, fatigue and abdominal pain. All of these can be helped by ibuprofen or another over the counter painkiller with some success. Urine may appear cloudy or have a foul odor associated with it. The infection may not be deep within the body. If so, it may be easier to treat.

It is always a good idea to get a diagnosis from a doctor as soon as you suspect you might have a UTI. Because of the structure of a female body, they are more prone to getting UTIs than men. Sometimes the condition will run in families, where many women in the family suffer from frequent bouts with the condition. When this is the case, preventative measures can be taken.

Women who suffer from this condition more frequently than others will often try a six month prescription of antibiotics that are designed to reduce the amount of infection-causing bacteria. The kidneys and the bladder are two common types of infections that are associated with UTIs.

A doctor will help narrow down what type of condition it is and how it should be treated. If the condition is severe, it will be treated as quickly as possible to prevent kidney damage or harm to any other organs in the body. If it is mild and caught in early stages, it can be treated by a more prolonged treatment that will help prevent it from coming back.

Having a urinary tract infection that is not treated quickly can lead to other problems. Vomiting and nausea are two symptoms that should not be ignored. These are signs that the condition is getting much worse. Some infections heal on their own but most require some kind of medication and treatment.
